With today being the last day of 2015, I wanted to make sure I published this post because it’s so “Christmas-y” and a lot of items are no longer available. I think they will be back next year though.

I was asked to be one of the hosts for the Couples’ Holiday Progressive Dinner at my church. I was a bit reluctant because my honey was out of town for the umpteenth time this year, I didn’t think the house was ready (will it ever be?), and I didn’t know if I could pull it off.

I’m so glad I did it. It was a really great experience, and I had a wonderful time.

We had never done this type of dinner before. We are normally gone for the winter holidays. Many times when we go to NY for Christmas, we leave early in December and sometimes spend two to five weeks there.

The appetizers and salads were served at one house while the desserts were served at another. My house was reserved for the dinner portion of the night.  Each couple brought a dish to share.

The biggest concern I had was whether or not I should pull out the fancy dishes and silverware. I did and don’t regret it. We very rarely use paper and plastic dishes, cups, and utensils for ourselves and I certainly didn’t want to use that with company. The only thing I held back was my cloth napkins just because I didn’t know what kind of food people were bringing.

Thankfully I have three sets of dishes, three sets of flatware, many drinking glasses, and plenty of napkin rings, etc. I am always prepared for large gatherings lol, and thankfully I buy everything on sale or with a coupon.

We had our dining room table set along with two on the pool deck. I tried to make the house look festive by hanging a garland, wreaths, and red, bow pillows.

Have you ever attended such a dinner? What are your plans for the New Year?

Thanks for reading!
