This past weekend was a bible quizzing tournament in our city at our church. This is our seventh year as a bible quizzing family. For the past six years, I have helped with our teams in various ways. For the past few years though, I’ve been coaching, alongside my husband. Tournament after tournament that I have attended has made me so nervous. I don’t know if I am more nervous for the kids or for myself. This is the first year that I have gone through the entire year without feeling as though I am going to have a nervous breakdown.
I must regretfully admit that I did not take pictures from the tournament this weekend. I know, I know. How unlike me! The boys wanted to dress up. They wore black dress pants, a white, buttoned down shirt, and black bow ties. My sweet husband does not wear bow ties, so he wore a black tie. I wore the same colors, but the whole day seemed like such a blur that I didn’t even have a chance to take out the camera…except for the quick picture of the cupcake. I decided to use pictures with a lot of color in this post because our outfits were so…black and white…and lacked color. Of course, I wore an aqua cross body to add some color to my outfit.
Our youth group is fundraising for a youth congress. I was asked to bake cupcakes for them to sell. I made a chocolate lovers’ cupcake and a bacon french toast cupcake. Above, you will find a picture of the bacon french toast cupcakes that I made. If you can believe it, I rarely ever eat my cupcakes. If I do want to have some of them, I take a forkful, and that’s enough for me.
Notice that I was trying not to write about the results of the tournament. It seems that whenever we compete in our home church, we don’t always fare well. This tournament wasn’t our worst, but it wasn’t our best either. Last month, we were undefeated. I am just really happy about how well the boys are doing this year. This is their first year in a higher division, and it’s the same as going to a different grade. They are ‘freshmen’ in bible quizzing this year. Every three years they move to another division based on their age.
We lost our first game. After that, the boys were able to come back and win several games. They ended up placing second in their division. My handsome, little man had the second highest average of the day in his division. Next month is our state finals. This is where the rubber will meet the road. All the other tournaments were essentially for practice, but this tournament is very important because where a team places in this tournament will determine how much money they receive in order to participate in the national competition in OKC. Yikes! Pray for us please!
What did you do this weekend? I’d love to hear about it!
